Orginally, Rain and I entered this trial for one day to proof a skill in a competition environment. But it turn out as a day Rain and I paid tribute to MACH Mako, my 1st agility dog, a black cocker spaniel on his farewell on Tuesday March 3rd at 11.30 am due to old age illness. I wore a cocker spaniel t-shirt running Rain. I frequently wore this t-shirt in agility competitions with Mako in MN and other mid-west states when he was in his pink of health before retiring from competitions 5 years ago.
Mako was my teacher in all respect of dog agility and obedience training. Mako had a huge impact on the way I trained Rain, and many of my past and current agility students. He was a very consistent, very forgiving and fast little 12 inch agility dog. Mako participated in 3 AKC Nationals before I retired him. He worn Agility Dog of the Year 1999 with Singapore Kennel Club before we moved to USA. He covered lots of ground around the world running agility. Mako would be 15 years old in Aug this year.
Mako's passing was difficult for me to run Rain when the grief, hurt and loss are still fresh wounds but I know I needed to move on. I told Rain when we walked into both Standard and JWW ring, that both runs were intended to be a tribute to Mako and he will be proud of Rain no matter what the outcome. Rain had two awesome runs. Mako is our angel, watching and guiding every strides Rain took on both courses. Thank you, Mako. We love you and we missed you dearly.
Both runs by Rain could not have been any better given this difficult times. Click on links below to view our runs and we hope you can learn some skills from the videos. Thanks to Don Hansen and Dale Hoken for making both videos possible.

AKC Excellent JWW 20 inch
This run was on Valentine's day and also my 15th wedding anniversary. Wife had to work so I spend that day with Rain instead. I had a really bad run in Standard that morning. Therefore I was determined to run Rain aggressively for time and at my best. If there is a possibility of several things going wrong on a course, the one that will cause the mose damage will be the one to go wrong. I had to laugh at myself for this once in a life time run (I hope) that I thought I made it clean!!
Lesson learnt: Murphy's Law at work! Click here for video.
This next run is also our JWW run the next day. I share this video because viewers will be able to see tight lines in two sequences on the course, ie 90 deg turn from jump to tunnel after a long lead out at the opening and serpentine. Viewers can also see how my disconnect with Rain towards the finish line caused a dropped bar. Missing WP #3 for #4 is a mystery - I can only guess it is a footing issue and more practice on different surfaces.
Lesson learnt: Reward my dog with hugs and kisses at the end of the run, Q or no Q. Click here for video.

There were two video cameras filming this run from different angles. Thanks to Don Hansen of Kennel Boy Video Production who gracefully provided one of the video clip that allows me to do a side-by-side comparision of both Rain's and my running path for enhanced post competition analysis.
Viewers will be able to see Rain's narrowly miss a refusal call from triple jump into the tunnel! It is my poor handling from the approach the second she dismounted the teeter. That wide turn to the tunnel caused us 1.5 secs course time(timed with Dartfish).
Lesson learnt: Be on top of my handling work with my dog 110% of the time. Click here for video.
AKC Excellent JWW 20 inch
Once again, thanks to Don Hansen who gracefully provided a video that allows me to do a side-by-side comparison of both Rain's and my running path for enhanced post competition analysis.
Key highlights from video: Note my front cross position from WP exit enable Rain an efficient and straight speedy approach into the tunnel entrance and my trust for Rain at distance work on the course. Also note some wide turns as well. Those wide turns are caused by my late cues or timeliness to get into position for the next obstacle.
Lesson learnt: Performance improves when I trust my dog and let teamwork do the work. Click here for video.
